Additional information

Lippe-Detmold's billon issues of the 1780s were struck under Simon August, Count of Lippe, whose administration was notably preoccupied with financial reform and the rationalization of the county's coinage system. The Mattier — a low-denomination pfennig-adjacent unit — persisted in the petty commerce of Westphalian market towns long after larger territorial neighbors had abandoned comparable fractional billon entirely.

The county's mint output during this decade was modest, and small denominations like this saw heavy circulation attrition. KM#209 survivors in collectible condition are correspondingly scarce relative to the type's original production volume.
