Finland's 2001 markka issues were the final coins produced before the country adopted the euro on January 1, 2002, making this the last year of issue for a currency that had circulated since 1860. The Bank of Finland commissioned gold-composition farewell pieces specifically for collectors anticipating the transition, a deliberate commemorative gesture rather than any monetary necessity.
KM#95 in 18-karat gold is the proof collector issue, not a circulation strike.
