Reverse description The reverse displays a boldly rendered imperial German eagle perched in profile facing right, with wings dramatically spread upward, surmounted by a small crown. The eagle stands upon a branch or ground line at the base of the coin. The circumferential legend 'EINIGKEIT MACHT STARK' (Unity is Strength) is inscribed along the upper and right periphery in Gothic script, separated by a beaded inner border. The dynamic, stylized rendering of the eagle is characteristic of the Jugendstil aesthetic employed by engraver Ludwig Gies for this pattern issue.
