Norddorf auf Amrum is among the smallest communities ever to issue notgeld — a North Frisian island village with a population that barely justified the effort. The Verkehrsverein, a local tourism and commerce association rather than any financial institution, commissioned this note during the height of the small-change crisis that pushed hundreds of German municipalities and private bodies into emergency currency production.
Arthur Götting of Preetz handled the design, a regional commercial artist whose work appears across several Schleswig-Holstein issues of the period. Hartung & Co. in Hamburg did the printing. Four varieties are catalogued under this reference, distinguished by minor typographic or color differences.
