| Obverse lettering | Notgeldschein Stadt Penig 1 Mark Herausgegeben am 6. Februar 1922 aus Anlaß der Verkehrsstörung durch den Eisenbahnerstreik. Dieser Schein wird in allen städtischen Kassen bis 28. Februar 1922 eingelöst; nach diesem Zeitpunkt verliert der Schein seine Gültigkeit. Diese Frist ist als Abkürzung der Verjährungsfrist nach § 225 des B.G.B. aufzufassen. Der Stadtrat zu Penig Knoth, Bürgermeister (Translation: Emergency banknote City of Penig 1 Mark Issued on February 6, 1922 on the occasion of the traffic disruption caused by the railway strike. This note will be redeemed at all municipal cash offices until February 28, 1922; after this date, the note loses its validity.
