| Obverse description | Central field bears a large Gothic initial 'F' — for King Frederick II of Denmark — displayed within an ornate cartouche-shaped shield. The shield is surmounted by a royal crown rendered in high relief with beaded arches. The entire device is enclosed within a raised, thick circular border. The style is characteristic of mid-16th century Danish emergency klippe coinage, with bold, simply rendered forms suited to hasty wartime production. |

Frederick II's Danish mark issues of the early 1560s were struck specifically to finance his side of the Seven Years' War against Sweden — a conflict that began in 1563 and would drain both kingdoms for the better part of a decade. The billon composition itself is a direct reflection of wartime fiscal pressure; the silver content was deliberately depressed to stretch bullion reserves as far as military expenditure demanded.
The war ended in 1570 with the Treaty of Stettin, a negotiated stalemate that resolved almost nothing the fighting had started over.
