Additional information

Frederik III's reign saw Denmark humiliated by the Treaty of Roskilde in 1658, which stripped the kingdom of its Swedish provinces and nearly ended the monarchy itself. The financial strain of rebuilding — combined with the 1660 constitutional coup that abolished the nobility's tax exemptions and converted Denmark into an absolute hereditary monarchy — reshaped the entire basis on which royal coinage was struck. This 1666 issue belongs to the first decade of that new absolutist fiscal order.

The .671 fineness reflects ongoing silver debasement pressures common to Scandinavian mints in the post-war recovery period.
