Reverse description Central crowned shield bearing the denomination and date in four lines within the shield's field. A cross with thick, abbreviated arms is positioned behind the shield, its extremities visible at the quarters. The royal motto legend encircles the design as a peripheral inscription, separated by ornamental stops. The overall composition reflects late 17th-century Danish baroque coin design.

Additional information

Christian V's monetary reforms of the 1670s and 1680s restructured Danish coinage around a rational speciedaler system, displacing the older krone-based accounting. The 1 Mark piece occupied an awkward intermediate denomination in this transition — worth 16 skilling — and was struck in relatively limited quantities across Copenhagen's royal mint throughout the decade.

The .671 fineness places it below the higher-purity speciedaler coinage, reflecting deliberate policy to reserve finer silver for prestige issues while keeping subsidiary denominations in debased alloy.
