Obverse description The obverse displays the full civic arms of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen at centre: a vertically lined shield bearing two crossed keys surmounted by a royal crown, supported on either side by a rampant lion standing on a decorative plinth with scrollwork ornament at the base. The circular legend FREIE HANSESTADT arcs around the upper field and BREMEN runs along the lower field, all separated from the inner design by a continuous beaded border.
