Obverse description Cream-toned note with a diagonal-line guilloche underprint across the entire field. The issuer's name "Kreis Hofgeismar" is printed in large Gothic blackletter script at the top, with "Reinhardswald" inscribed in italic lettering below. A central vignette presents a stylised oak-branch spray flanked by a small framed numeral "4"; denomination panels bearing the numeral "1" over "Mark" in red and black appear at lower left and right. The bottom portion carries a two-line payment instruction in letterpress, followed by the account reference and a serial number.

Reverse description The reverse is dominated by a boldly rendered intaglio-style vignette of a bellowing red deer stag standing in a meadow landscape, with rocky outcrops and deciduous trees receding into the background under a cloud-filled sky. Denomination circles bearing the red numeral "1" are placed at lower left and right corners within the composition. The printer's imprint "Gebrüder Gotthelft, Cassel" appears in small letterpress text along the lower left margin, beneath a red and black border rule at the top edge.
