Obverse description The obverse is divided into three vertical panels on a yellow-gold ground. The central panel carries a large oval vignette with a polychrome heraldic coat of arms supported by two rampant lions under a royal crown, rendered in blue, red, and gold against a blue field. The left panel bears a smaller municipal shield in red and white with crossed tools and a motto scroll reading "Glück auf!" beneath the legend "Hier wohnt ein rei Geschlecht", while the right panel shows a red cross on white shield with the motto "Standhaft und treu!". The denomination "Eine Mark" appears in Gothic lettering in the upper corners of the flanking panels, and the issuer inscription in ornate Fraktur script runs along the lower margin.

Reverse description The reverse is arranged in three vertical panels on a brown and green ground. The central panel presents a vignette of the Rathaus (town hall) of Philippsthal a. d. Werra, a gabled building rendered in green and brown with a cross finial and arched entrance, set against a hillside landscape; the year "1913" appears in the upper right corner of this panel. The left flanking panel depicts an allegorical figure of Justitia with scales and sword, captioned "Justitia.", while the right panel shows a uniformed Ortsdiener (town crier) holding a bell and a document, captioned "Ortsdiener.". The denomination "Eine Mark" and the place name "Philippsthal a. d. Werra" appear in Gothic lettering within the green lower border.
