| Obverse description | Central depiction of the Riga city gate, rendered as a twin-towered castle facade with an arched portal, occupying the majority of the field. Atop the gatehouse, the crossed keys of Saint Peter appear in saltire, serving as the civic heraldic device of Riga. Beneath the castle, in the lower field, the mintmaster's initials I·R are inscribed between two small ornaments. A circular Latin legend borders the design, reading RIGENSIS CIVITATIS. |

| Reverse description | Two large crossed keys in saltire dominate the central field, with the bow of each key rendered in elaborate foliate form and a small rosette or pellet at the crossing point. The date 15-72 is divided by the keys, appearing in the lower left and lower right quarters respectively. A circular Latin legend surrounds the entire design, commencing with a cross pattée at the top and reading MONETA NOVA ARGENTEA, identifying the coin as a new silver issue of Riga. |
