Reverse description Within a beaded inner circle, a frontal enthroned figure of the Madonna is depicted, nimbed and holding the Christ Child on her left arm while her right hand appears raised in a gesture of blessing. The figures are rendered in a stylized, hieratic manner characteristic of hammered German Mariengroschen coinage of the period. A peripheral Latin legend referencing Maria as Mother and Lady encircles the design along the outer border.
