Additional information

The Marengo Assisi was a private commemorative issue produced by the Italian firm Italpreziosi in the early 1970s, struck in sterling silver and sold as a collector's piece rather than circulating currency. It had no legal tender status. The series drew its name from the Napoleonic gold marengo — itself named after the Battle of Marengo in 1800 — though the connection is largely nominal, a marketing lineage rather than a monetary one.
