Obverse description Half-length frontal effigy of Charlemagne, robed and crowned, holding imperial regalia, positioned above the crowned double-headed eagle of the Aachen civic arms. The figure is rendered in the tradition of the Holy Roman imperial iconography, occupying the central field of the square klippe flan. A circular beaded border surrounds the design, with the abbreviated Latin legend distributed around the periphery.
