| Obverse description | Saint Mark, standing facing, presents a standard or gonfalon to the kneeling Doge Leonardo Loredan, who receives it in an act of investiture. The saint is depicted with a halo and robes, while the Doge wears his ceremonial ducal cap and mantle. Mintmaster initials appear in the left and right fields. The surrounding legend reads LEONAR • LAVREDAN` • S • M • VENETI, identifying the Doge and invoking Saint Mark of Venice. The composition follows the traditional Venetian hammered style, with a slightly irregular flan characteristic of the period. |
