Reverse description The reverse repeats the same design as the obverse, displaying the Chinese characters 一錢 (1 Mace) in bold raised relief at center within a rectangular cartouche, surrounded by two confronted dragons in mirror-image arrangement along the upper and lower margins. This mule nature of the piece is evidenced by the identical design appearing on both faces, struck from dies of the same type. The field is plain and unadorned outside the central motif. The overall workmanship is consistent with pattern or trial strikings from the Peiyang Arsenal Mint.
