Albanian Chamber of Commerce notes from the interwar period are among the most obscure locally-issued scrip in European numismatics. Berat's Chamber issued this 1 Lire note denominated in Italian lire rather than any Albanian unit — a pointed reflection of the Italian economic penetration of Albania during the early 1920s, well before the formal Italian protectorate arrangements of the later Zog years.
The handstamp serves as the sole security feature, which was entirely typical of Albanian emergency scrip from this period. Surviving examples are genuinely rare; provincial Albanian commerce notes rarely made it out of circulation intact.
