Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Victor Emmanuel II facing right, with curly hair, full beard and moustache, rendered in high relief in a neoclassical style. The truncation of the bust is unadorned, with the engraver's signature GORI incused below. The circular legend VITTORIO EMANUELE RE ELETTO runs along the upper periphery, separated from the toothed border by a flat rim.

Reverse description Central device comprising the crowned shield of Savoy bearing the white cross on a red field, encircled by the collar of the Supreme Order of the Most Holy Annunciation, the whole suspended within a wreath of laurel branches that frame the left, bottom, and right sides of the shield. The denomination L.1 appears in the exergue below the wreath, with the Florence mint mark at lower right. The circular legend UNA LIRA ITALIANA · FIRENZE 1860 · runs along the upper periphery within a toothed border.
