Additional information

Umberto I's lira coinage ran across seventeen years but was never produced in consistent volumes — output fluctuated sharply depending on Treasury demand, and several years within the range saw no strikes at all. The 1884 issue is notably scarce relative to most dates in the series.

Umberto was assassinated at Monza in July 1900 by anarchist Gaetano Bresci, ending the series abruptly. Bresci had sailed from Paterson, New Jersey specifically to carry out the act.
