Obverse description Central design features the Gateway of Genoa (the Porta) surmounted by the Sforza dynastic arms bearing the biscione (coiled serpent), the whole set within a polylobed inner frame ornamented with annulets at each interior point. A five-pointed star flanks the gateway on each side within the field. The composition is enclosed by a thin solid inner circle and a broader reeded outer border. The Latin legend encircling the design records the full titulature of John Galeazzo Maria Sforza as Sixth Duke of Milan and Lord of Genoa.
