Obverse description The papal arms of Pope Pius XI occupy the centre of the field, depicting a shield charged with an eagle above three mountains and three roundels, surmounted by the papal tiara and crossed keys, flanked by elaborate scrolled supporters with tasselled cords. The circular legend reads PIVS XI PONT MAX AN X around the upper periphery, with the divided date placed in the exergue at the bottom. The design is executed in high relief in a formal ecclesiastical style engraved by Aurelio Mistruzzi.
