Campo di Concentramento N.70 was one of the Italian prisoner-of-war camps operating under the Regio Esercito during the Second World War. The internal scrip issued at these camps served as a controlled substitute currency — inmates could receive pay or credit allocations, spend within the camp economy, and be denied access to real lire that might fund escape attempts or black-market dealings with guards. The system was not unique to Italy, but Italian camp scrip is notably heterogeneous: denominations, formats, and authentication methods varied camp by camp, often reflecting whatever printing and stamping resources were locally available.
The handstamp security feature on this note is the authentication — without a recognized camp impression, a note could be refused or replaced during periodic currency recalls, which camps used to control illicit accumulation.
