Turkey's Court of Accounts — the Sayıştay — was founded in 1862 under Ottoman Sultan Abdülaziz, making it one of the older supreme audit institutions in the region. This commemorative lira marks the institution's 150th anniversary. The Darphane issued a number of similar bimetallic commemoratives throughout the 2000s and early 2010s timed to institutional anniversaries, most in modest mintages that saw little circulation.
