Turkey's ongoing bimetallic commemorative wildlife series has drawn mixed reception from collectors — the Angora goat issue reflects a deliberate push by the Darphane to highlight indigenous breeds, the Ankara goat being native to the Ankara province and the source of mohair fiber traded globally since at least the 16th century. Ottoman sultans once held monopoly rights over mohair export, a commercial stranglehold that made the breed politically significant well before it appeared on coinage.
