Obverse description The obverse presents three stylized pomegranate fruits arranged symmetrically in the central field, a motif drawn from ancient Israelite iconography. Below the pomegranates, the State of Israel emblem — a seven-branched menorah flanked by two olive branches — is rendered in low relief. A tripartite legend encircles the design, with the Hebrew inscription at the top, the Arabic transliteration along the lower arc, and the Latin legend positioned between them, each rendering the word 'Israel' in its respective script. The overall design is clean and modernist in character, with the inscriptions forming a near-complete border around the central devices.

Additional information

By the time this lira was being struck in its final years, the denomination had been rendered nearly worthless by the inflation that would ultimately force Israel's 1980 monetary reform — the one that replaced the lira with the shekel at a rate of 10 to 1. The coin outlasted its own economic relevance by several years, kept in production largely by institutional inertia.

The three KM variants reflect progressive die modifications made over the long production run, primarily affecting the details of the date numerals and edge treatment.
