Obverse description Central device depicts the arms of the Republic of Genoa — a quartered shield — displayed on a decorated cartouche and surmounted by a ducal crown with a cross finial. The shield is supported on either side by a winged griffin rampant, each facing inward toward the escutcheon. The denomination 'L • 1' appears in the lower field beneath the cartouche. The peripheral legend 'DUX • ET GUB • REIP • GENU •' runs along the inner border, with a fine beaded rim encircling the entire design.
