Obverse description Armored and crowned bust of Philip II facing right, depicted in profile with visible plate armor and a royal crown above. The effigy is rendered in a crude hammered style typical of provincial Low Countries coinage of the late sixteenth century. A continuous Latin legend encircles the bust, partially visible due to the irregular flan and die wear. The king's features are stylized rather than portrait-like, consistent with the artistic conventions of minor circulation coinage of the period.
