Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of Tsar Ferdinand I facing right, with a prominent beard, rendered in high relief in a naturalistic late 19th-century portrait style. The engraver's signature ST. SCHWARTZ appears incuse on the truncation, along with the Cyrillic letter Ф (for Ferdinand) below. The Cyrillic legend ФЕРДИНАНДЪ I ЦАРЬ НА БЪЛГАРИТѢ curves around the upper and lower periphery of the field. The design is framed by a continuous beaded border.
