| Obverse description | The state coat of arms of the People's Republic of Bulgaria occupies the central field, depicting a rampant lion passant on a shield, flanked by two symmetrical wheat sheaves tied at the base with a ribbon bearing the date 9·IX·1944, the date of the communist takeover. A five-pointed star surmounts the shield at the apex.
