| Obverse description | Bare-headed effigy of King Carol I facing left, with short hair and a trimmed beard, rendered in high relief against a smooth field. The engraver's signature CH. PILLET appears in small capitals below the truncation of the neck. The circular legend surrounding the portrait reads CAROL•1•REGE•AL•ROMANIEI•, separated by raised bullet stops, in bold Latin capitals. The rim is defined by a continuous dentilated border. |
