Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King George I facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair. The circular legend reads ΓΕΩΡΓΙΟΣ Α. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΥΣ ΤΩΝ ΕΛΛΗΝΩΝ (George I, King of the Greeks), distributed around the portrait. The engraver's name BARRE appears incuse in small letters below the truncation, with the date 1869 in the lower exergue. The portrait is executed in the classicising French academic style characteristic of Désiré-Albert Barre's work. A beaded border frames the entire design.
