Reverse description The denomination 1 ΛΕΠΤΟΝ is inscribed centrally within a wreath composed of laurel and olive branches, tied at the base with a bow. The peripheral legend •ΚΥΒΕΡΝΗΤΗΣ Ι•Α•ΚΑΠΟΔΙΣΤΡΙΑΣ• arcs around the upper portion of the coin, referencing Governor Ioannis Antonios Kapodistrias, the first head of state of independent Greece. The date 1830 appears in the lower exergual area, below the wreath, within the beaded border.

Additional information

The 1830 lepton belongs to the first coinage issued by the modern Greek state, authorized under Ioannis Kapodistrias, who governed as the first head of state before his assassination in October 1831. Production took place at the Aegina mint — itself a temporary facility established on the island because no infrastructure existed on the mainland. The series was struck in extremely limited quantities given the near-total collapse of the Greek economy following nearly a decade of war against Ottoman rule.

Kapodistrias never lived to see his monetary system fully implemented.
