| Additional information |
The Bank of Sierra Leone was established in 1964, a few years after independence from Britain, and this 1974 issue marks its first decade of operation as the country's central bank. Sierra Leone had replaced the British West African pound with the leone only in 1964, making the anniversary as much about monetary independence as institutional longevity.
KM#26a is the silver version of a two-variant issue, the other struck in copper-nickel for general circulation. The .925 silver pieces were produced for the collector market and saw no meaningful circulation.
