Honduras retired its cotton-paper 1 Lempira series after this period in favor of polymer substrate notes — a shift that made the P#84 issue the last of the traditional paper 1 Lempira denomination. The Canadian Bank Note Company had held the Honduras printing contract for decades by this point, a relationship that kept production quality consistent across successive issues even as the security specifications evolved incrementally.

The security thread on this series is embedded rather than windowed, an older implementation already being phased out by peer issuers at the time.
