Obverse description Printed in red on a pale ground, the obverse carries a left-side portrait vignette of Lempira, the Lenca chieftain, shown in profile with a feathered headdress, his name lettered beneath the portrait. A central guilloche rosette frames the denomination numeral '1', with the national coat of arms positioned to the right; the date '16 DE MARZO DE 1951' is set at the lower right, and three manuscript signatures of bank officials run along the bottom margin.

Reverse description Printed in red, the reverse is centred on an oval vignette of a Maya stela at Copán, with the ancient ruins rendered in the background and enclosed within an elaborate guilloche border. Corner numerals '1' appear at each angle within ornamental scroll frames, and the printer's imprint 'WATERLOW & SONS LIMITED, LONDRES' is lettered along the lower margin.
