Latvia's collectible lats series, issued through the early 2000s, was a deliberate cultural project by the Bank of Latvia to circulate coins themed around national symbols and folklore — mushrooms being central to Latvian rural tradition and a near-universal autumn pastime. These were struck for circulation, not as proofs, which means worn examples are genuinely common while uncirculated survivors are less so than mintage figures suggest.
