Latvia's "Heaven" lats belongs to a collector series the Bank of Latvia launched in the late 1990s celebrating Latvian folk beliefs and cosmology — a deliberate cultural project during the country's post-Soviet reassertion of national identity. Each issue in the series drew on the Dainas, the ancient Latvian folk songs catalogued in the 19th century by Krišjānis Barons, whose compilation ran to six volumes and over 200,000 texts.
KM#51 was struck at a reported mintage of 10,000 pieces, typical for the series.
