| Obverse description | The entire field is occupied by a multi-line Arabic religious inscription rendered in a bold, archaic calligraphic hand characteristic of Maldivian hammered coinage of the 18th century. The legends are arranged in horizontal registers across the flan, with the script displaying pronounced relief against a flat, granular field. The inscription references the Islamic declaration of faith (Shahada) and the sultan's titles, typical of Maldivian larin coinage of this period. The coin exhibits an irregular flan with the legends slightly off-center, consistent with hand-struck production. |

The larin was a wire-money denomination — a silver or billon rod bent double — that circulated across the Indian Ocean trade network from the Persian Gulf to Ceylon long before the Maldives began striking its own. By the mid-eighteenth century the islands were issuing locally produced larins under the authority of the sultanate, with Hasan 'Izz ud-din's reign representing one of the more productive periods of that output. Billon content in this series varied noticeably, and individual pieces often show uneven alloy distribution across the folded wire.
