| Obverse description | The obverse displays the coat of arms of Malawi prominently in the centre of the field. The shield, supported by a lion rampant to the left and a leopard rampant to the right, bears a representation of the rising sun above wavy lines symbolising Lake Malawi, with a lion passant in the lower compartment. Above the shield, an African fish eagle with wings spread serves as the crest. A ribbon below the supporters bears the national motto in the legend 'UNITY AND FREEDOM'. The country name 'MALAWI' is inscribed in large letters along the lower periphery. |
