Issued as part of Turkey's ongoing wildlife conservation series, this piece was struck to draw attention to the white-headed duck (Oxyura leucocephala), a stiff-tailed diving duck whose global population collapsed to roughly 10,000 individuals by the early 1990s due to habitat drainage and hybridization pressure from the introduced ruddy duck. Turkey's lake systems — particularly Burdur Gölü — hold one of the last significant breeding populations in the world.
