Part of Turkey's ongoing wildlife series, this issue belongs to a run of themed kuruş denominations that function almost entirely as collector pieces — the 1 kuruş has had negligible purchasing power in daily commerce for years. The Rosy Starling (*Pastor roseus*) breeds across Central Asia and winters in the Indian subcontinent, with Turkey sitting directly on one of its major migratory corridors, which explains the species' inclusion.
