Turkey's "Baykuşlar" (Owls) series was issued by the Turkish State Mint to draw attention to native raptor species, with the Eurasian Scops Owl — Otus scops — among the smallest owls found across Anatolia and a common summer migrant throughout the region. The 1 Kuruş face value is purely nominal; by 2018, a single kuruş had no practical purchasing power in Turkey, where inflation had rendered sub-lira denominations functionally obsolete decades earlier.
