Part of Turkey's wildlife conservation series, this issue coincides with active reintroduction programs for the bearded vulture — known locally as sakallı akbaba — in the Anatolian highlands, where the species had been functionally extirpated by the mid-twentieth century through poisoning campaigns targeting wolves and jackals.
