| Obverse description | Central field dominated by the elaborate calligraphic tughra of Sultan Abdülhamid II, rendered in the traditional Ottoman imperial monogram style. To the right of the tughra appears the honorific epithet 'el-Ghazi' (the Warrior) in Arabic script within a cartouche. The regnal year appears in Arabic numerals at the base of the design. The entire composition is encircled by a border of thirteen six-pointed stars set within a finely reeded rim. |
