| Reverse description | Central field bears a finely engraved left-facing common nightingale (Luscinia megarhynchos) perched on a branch, depicted in naturalistic style with detailed plumage. The scientific name 'LUSCINIA MEGARHYNCHOS' arcs around the upper periphery in bold Latin lettering. The commemorative dates '1994.' and '2014.' are inscribed at the lower left and lower right respectively, flanking the bird's perch. The engraver's initials 'KK' appear discreetly in the lower central field near the branch, denoting Kuzma Kovačić. |

The kuna was reintroduced as Croatia's currency in May 1994, replacing the Croatian dinar that had itself only been in circulation since 1991 following independence from Yugoslavia. This commemorative marks two decades of that reintroduction. The name "kuna" — a medieval unit of account based on marten pelts used in tribute payments — had previously appeared on a wartime currency issued by the Ustasha regime during World War II, a historical association that made the name politically contentious when it was revived in the 1990s.
