On the obverse of the commemorative gold coin `Hum` in the central part is the head of the autochthonous Istrian cattle - Boškarin. Above the cattle`s head is the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia, below which is the nominal value symbol `1` and the name of the monetary unit `KUNA`, which are all positioned to the left, for the purpose of a slight departure from mirror symmetry. Below the cattle`s head is the inscription `HUM` in Glagolitic script. To the left and right of the cattle`s head and the inscription `HUM` in Glagolitic is the inscription `REPUBLIKA CROATIA`.
