Comments

Anthering is a small agricultural parish north of Salzburg, and its decision to issue notgeld in 1920 reflects how thoroughly the currency crisis had penetrated even the most rural corners of postwar Austria. The collapse of the Habsburg monetary system left local administrations scrambling to produce their own fractional substitutes — not as novelty issues, but out of genuine transactional necessity.

S. u. K. Müller was a Salzburg printing house responsible for a number of regional notgeld commissions, with F.X. Stadler handling the design work on this and related municipal issues from the area.
