Additional information

The "Weinkreuzer" or wine kreuzer issues of the Salzburg Bishopric were emergency-adjacent tokens issued specifically to facilitate transactions in the Gastein valley's wine trade — a practical response to chronic small-change shortages that plagued alpine markets throughout the early eighteenth century. Archbishop Franz Anton von Harrach, under whose authority these were struck, was notably active in rationalizing local commerce in the Salzburg territories.

Zöttl distinguishes two varieties across the 3593–3594 range, likely reflecting die changes between the 1728 and 1731 emissions.
