Additional information

Louis Eugen ruled Württemberg for barely three years before his death in 1795, making his coinage issues collectively short-lived. The duchy was under mounting pressure from Revolutionary France throughout his reign — French forces would cross the Rhine repeatedly during this period, and Württemberg's room to maneuver politically or financially was shrinking fast. Small billon kreuzers like this one absorbed whatever silver the mint could source while maintaining at least nominal metallic value in an increasingly unstable regional economy.
